Set up your TVs
Last updated October 17, 2026
Sequence is in early access. Every TV app below is still in testing, and none is in a TV app store yet. These are the same steps that appear on the Your TVs page in the Sequence app for Mac. That page also shows your computer's exact address, so keep it open while you set up each TV.
Before you start (every TV)
- Install the Sequence app on the Mac in your office. Add your photos and put them in order.
- Put the TV and that Mac on the same Wi-Fi. Do not use a guest network for either one.
- In Sequence, open Your TVs. The top card should say Ready to send to your TVs. It also lists the address your TVs use to reach the Mac, for example 192.168.1.23. Sometimes the address ends in :5190, for example 192.168.1.23:5190. If it does, type the whole thing, including :5190, everywhere this page says "the address".
- Each TV asks for a 6-digit pairing code once. To get it, click Show pairing code on the Your TVs page. One code works for 15 minutes, on as many TVs as you like.
Roku TVs and Roku streaming sticks
For Roku TVs (TCL, Hisense, Sharp, Roku-brand) and Roku streaming sticks. Do this once per TV. Until the Roku store listing is ready, the app goes on through Roku's own developer installer.
- Make sure the TV and the Mac are on the same Wi-Fi.
- In Sequence, on the Your TVs page, click Download connected Roku app. This saves a file called Sequence-Roku-Connected.zip. It holds no photos; it plays whatever you send.
- On the TV remote, press Home 3 times, Up 2 times, then Right, Left, Right, Left, Right. A developer screen opens.
- Choose Enable installer and restart, and set a developer password. Write the password down.
- On the TV, go to Settings → Network → About. Write down the TV's IP address.
- On the Mac, open Safari or Chrome and type that IP address in the address bar. Sign in with the user name rokudev and the password you set.
- Click Upload, choose Sequence-Roku-Connected.zip, then click Install (or Replace if an older copy is there).
- The TV finds the Mac by itself. In Sequence, click Show pairing code. On the TV, type the 6 digits with the arrow keys and OK, then pick the TV's name (Reception, Op 1…).
- In Sequence, click Send to TVs. The TV shows your slideshow within about 30 seconds. Every later Send updates it automatically.
Roku remote: OK pauses, Left/Right change photos, * shows options. Volume: Roku TVs use the TV's own volume, so set it with the TV remote. Effects: Roku shows photos with Dissolve or Instant; Sequence switches other effects to Dissolve for Roku and tells you.
Google TV and Android TV
For Sony, TCL, Hisense and Philips Google TVs, and the Chromecast with Google TV. Do this once per TV. Until the Google Play listing is ready, the app is installed with the free Downloader app.
- Make sure the TV and the Mac are on the same Wi-Fi.
- On the TV, open Google Play, search for Downloader (by AFTVnews) and install it.
- On the TV, go to Settings → System → About. Select Android TV OS build 7 times, until it says you are a developer.
- Go to Settings → Apps → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources and turn on Downloader.
- Open Downloader. Type the address shown on the Your TVs page, followed by /sequence-tv.apk. For example: http://192.168.1.23/sequence-tv.apk (or http://192.168.1.23:5190/sequence-tv.apk if your address ends in :5190). Choose Go.
- Choose Install. If Google Play Protect warns you, choose Install anyway. Then choose Open.
- The TV finds the Mac by itself. In Sequence, click Show pairing code, type the 6 digits on the TV and choose Connect.
- The TV asks Name this TV. Pick where it is (Reception, Op 1…). That is the name it shows on the Your TVs page.
- In Sequence, click Send to TVs. The TV plays your slideshow within about 30 seconds.
Remote: OK pauses, Left/Right change photos, Up shows status, Back exits. To connect to a different Mac, pause and press Down. Good to know: the app does not start by itself when the TV turns on yet, so open Sequence from the TV's home screen. After that, it plays the last slideshow it saved, even if the Mac is off.
Amazon Fire TV
For Fire TV Sticks, Fire TV Cubes and Fire TV edition TVs. Fire TV will use the same Sequence app as Google TV, from the Amazon Appstore. That listing is not ready yet, so for now a Fire TV uses its web browser and the Sequence web player. Nothing to install:
- Make sure the Fire TV and the Mac are on the same Wi-Fi.
- On the Fire TV, open Silk Browser.
- In the address bar, type the address shown on the Your TVs page (for example 192.168.1.23) and choose Go. The Sequence player opens. If the browser searches the web instead, type http:// in front of the address.
- In Sequence, click Show pairing code and type the 6 digits on the TV. Pick the TV's name (Reception, Op 1…).
- In Sequence, click Send to TVs.
- Bookmark the page in Silk so it is one click next time. If Silk shows its toolbar over the page, use its full-screen button.
Remote: OK pauses, Left/Right change photos, Up shows options. Good to know: keep the Mac on. See the note under the next section.
Samsung, LG, VIZIO and other TVs with a web browser
Nothing to install. The TV's own web browser opens the Sequence web player. Do this once per TV.
- Make sure the TV and the Mac are on the same Wi-Fi.
- On the TV, open its web browser app. Samsung and LG call it Internet or Web Browser.
- In the address bar, type the address shown on the Your TVs page (for example 192.168.1.23) and choose Go. The Sequence player opens. If the TV searches the web instead, type http:// in front of the address.
- In Sequence, click Show pairing code and type the 6 digits on the TV. Pick the TV's name (Reception, Op 1…).
- In Sequence, click Send to TVs.
- Bookmark the page on the TV so it is one click next time. If the browser hides part of the page behind its own toolbar, press the browser's full-screen button.
Remote: OK pauses, Left/Right change photos, Up shows options. Good to know: keep the Mac on and Sequence open. If the Mac turns off, the web player keeps showing only the photos the TV has already loaded and skips the rest. When the Mac comes back, the full slideshow returns by itself.
TVs with Chromecast built in (VIZIO, Google TV, Chromecast)
Nothing to install on the TV. Sequence turns your slideshow into a looping video, with your order, captions, fades and music, and casts it from the Mac.
- Turn the TV on. Make sure it and the Mac are on the same Wi-Fi (not a guest network).
- In Sequence, on the Your TVs page, find Cast to TVs with Chromecast built in and click Find TVs. The search takes about 5 seconds.
- Tick each TV that should show your slideshow.
- Sequence prepares the cast video and starts it on the ticked TVs.
Good to know: cast TVs play from the Mac, so keep the Mac on and Sequence open. If someone casts something else to that TV (for example Netflix), that wins; Sequence comes back when the TV is free.
Any TV with an HDMI port
- Buy a Roku, Fire TV or Google TV streaming stick (about $30).
- Plug it into the TV's HDMI port and finish the stick's own setup, on the same Wi-Fi as the Mac.
- Follow the steps above for that stick: Roku, Fire TV or Google TV.
Using the same stick in every room is the simplest way to run a dozen rooms on identical hardware.
Apple TV
Apple TV is not supported yet.
If something goes wrong
- The TV can't find the Mac. Check that both are on the same Wi-Fi, and that neither is on a guest network. Check that the Your TVs page says Ready to send to your TVs. If it says Not connected to your TVs, quit Sequence and open it again.
- The TV's browser searches the web instead of opening Sequence. Type http:// in front of the address.
- The pairing code doesn't work. A code lasts 15 minutes. Click Show pairing code again for a new one.
- The TV says "This TV was unpaired. Enter the code again." Click Show pairing code in Sequence and type the new code on the TV.
- The TV still shows the old slideshow. Click Send to TVs again and wait about 30 seconds.
- No music on a Roku TV. Turn up the TV's own volume with the TV remote.
- Still stuck? Email hello@sequencetv.com. Please don't send patient photos or patient names.
